Who We Are & Why We Play
Co-owners Bill Shapiro and Ron Stern—lifelong friends since high school—had a shared vision: to open an indoor pickleball club unlike any other. Despite neither being pickleball players at the time, their passion for sports and community drove the idea forward. Bill, an avid tennis player based in Boston, and Ron, a lifelong hockey player from Detroit, ultimately chose Metro Detroit as the perfect location for their venture, landing in Westland as the home of Wicked Pickle.
To bring their vision to life, Bill and Ron visited clubs across the country, carefully studying what worked and what didn’t. Drawing from those experiences, they set out to build a space that combined the very best elements of every club they saw—with a few improvements of their own.
Wicked Pickle was created for everyone—from first-time players to seasoned pros. The facility features ten premier outdoor-style courts designed with top-tier surfaces to mirror the feel and play of an outdoor game. Each court is surrounded by generous spacing that exceeds standard court dimensions, and the club includes three championship-sized courts that are even larger than regulation size. Lighting and sound were thoughtfully engineered with the player in mind, offering ideal sight lines and crystal-clear acoustics to elevate every match.
